Explore the demo company
Open Northwind Labs, a sample company with six months of books already kept, to see LedgerIt working before you connect your own bank.
The demo company is a set of books you can look around before your own are ready. Northwind Labs is a made-up Series A software company with six months of books already kept: a Mercury checking and treasury account, a Brex card, Stripe revenue and Gusto payroll.

Everything in it was put in the way your own books are kept, so every screen shows what it does with real activity:
- Transactions — about 240 bank, card and Stripe transactions. Most were filed by rules, some by the model, and a few by a person. Four from the last month are waiting in Needs review.
- Rules — the rules that filed them, one rule LedgerIt learned from a person's choices, and one that is paused.
- Ledger — payroll entries, an invoice on account, a prepaid insurance reclass, an accrual and its reversal, a bill not yet paid, and a draft entry not yet posted.
- Close — five months closed and locked. The month just ended is half done: two of five checklist tasks signed off, and the card is out of balance with its statement by $86.40.
- Reports and the Dashboard — cash, burn, runway, deferred revenue and the rest, from those six months.
Nothing you do in the demo reaches your own books, and nobody else can see it.
Open the demo
- VercelSep 28
- GustoSep 30
Open the menu under your name and choose Use demo data.
- Open the menu under your name, at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Choose Use demo data.
They open straight away: LedgerIt keeps a few sets ready, so there is nothing to wait for. If it ever takes longer, choose Cancel on the message to stay where you are. You can also choose Explore a demo company first on the first screen of setting up your books, before you have books of your own.
You are the demo's owner. Its books were kept by Northwind's accountant, Priya Shah, who is a member with the accountant role: the months she reconciled and closed show her name. She is part of the sample and never signs in.
While you are in the demo, a bar across the top of every screen says so. The books also appear in the books switcher with a Demo label.
Once you know, you can put the bar away: choose Hide this bar (the × at its end). It stays hidden until you leave the demo; the next time you open it, the bar is back. The Demo label in the books switcher still shows where you are, and the menu under your name keeps both of the bar's actions: Use demo data off takes you back to your own books, and Start the demo over starts it again.
Go back to your own books
Choose Back to my books in the bar across the top, or open the menu under your name and choose Use demo data again to turn it off. You return to the books you came from.
If you have no books of your own yet, the bar offers Set up my books instead, which starts setting them up.
Start the demo over
Choose Start over in the bar across the top, or Start the demo over in the menu under your name. Everything you did in the demo is deleted and Northwind Labs' six months are put back.
The demo is also made again on your first visit in a new month, so the month just ended is always the one being closed. Anything you changed in it before then is not kept.
What the demo cannot do
The demo's connections to Mercury, Brex, Stripe and Gusto are there to show what connected books look like. They are not signed in to anything:
- Sync now is not offered, and the demo never syncs on its own.
- You cannot connect a real bank, card or app in the demo. Connect yours from your own books; see Connect your bank, cards and apps.
- The demo is free and cannot be subscribed.
If you give the demo books to someone else as owner, they become their books and stop being your demo. Your next Use demo data makes you a new one.
