How to keep your books in LedgerIt, one guide per part of the product. Everything you can do on a screen, you can also do through the API.
Get started
- Set up your booksCreate your company's books in LedgerIt and connect your bank, cards, Stripe and payroll in two steps, then add the company's details whenever you like.
- Explore the demo companyOpen Northwind Labs, a sample company with six months of books already kept, to see LedgerIt working before you connect your own bank.
- Read your dashboardOnly what is left this month, each part once and a link to where it is done, then cash, burn, runway, MRR, the bills coming due and net assets.
- Switch from QuickBooksMove your books in from QuickBooks, Xero or a spreadsheet as of a cutover day, map each old account to one of yours, and tie out every figure to the cent.
- Work from the keyboardMove between screens, step through lists and start an entry without the mouse, see every shortcut for the screen you are on, and switch single keys off.
Bookkeeping
- See your bank accounts and cardsEvery bank account and card the books read, grouped by bank with their balances, in the order you drag them into.
- Review and file transactionsWork through the review queue, file transactions to GL accounts one at a time or in bulk, exclude what does not belong and upload a statement.
- Automate filing with rulesWrite rules that file transactions as they arrive, see the ones LedgerIt learned, and set how much the model may file without a person.
- Read your chart of accountsSee every GL account your books can post to, what each one holds today, and every line that made its balance what it is.
- Write and correct journal entriesRead the general ledger, post an entry by hand, correct one with a reversal, and enter the opening balances your books start from.
- Spread a payment over the months it pays forSpread a year paid up front over the months it covers, accrue a cost in the month you used it, and pause, resume or delete a schedule.
- Keep track of vendors and customersSee everyone money moved to or from, how much went each way, and correct the names and roles a bank feed cannot get right.
- Bill customers with invoicesWrite an invoice step by step, issue it onto your receivables, get paid by card or bank transfer, remind the customer, and void one issued by mistake.
- Enter and approve vendor billsDrop a vendor's bill as a PDF and have it read for you, or get bills by email; enter and approve them onto your payables, and void one entered by mistake.
- Record payments and apply themRecord money a customer paid you or you paid a vendor, apply it across invoices and bills, and see what is left unapplied.
- Record SAFEs, convertible notes and venture debtBook SAFEs, convertible notes and venture debt, let interest accrue at every close, record payments, and convert a SAFE or note at a priced round.
- Depreciate equipment and sell itRegister the laptops, servers and furniture the company owns, let every close depreciate them, and take one off the books when it is sold or thrown away.
- Find receipts and invoicesUpload, photograph or email receipts, open the ones behind your transactions, see which card spend is still missing one, and how LedgerIt keeps its own copy.
- Record equity awards and expense themRecord the options and stock you grant, let every close expense them as stock-based compensation by department, and forfeit them when someone leaves.
- Record money between your companiesRecord what one company of your group owes another once. LedgerIt posts it in both sets of books, keeps the balance with each, and reverses both together.
- Find receipts in your mailboxConnect a Gmail or Outlook mailbox, and LedgerIt searches it for the receipts of charges that have none, keeping only those emails.
- Get missing receipts from cardholdersGet a missing receipt from whoever swiped the card. A member uploads it in their inbox; anyone else gets an email link that needs no account.
- Use LedgerIt from WhatsAppLink your WhatsApp number, then send receipts to LedgerIt and ask the assistant about your books from your phone.
